ok why is it that most managers these days are complete jerks? the younger they are the worse it gets! seriously! my current boss is the worst i have ever met.. and he is only 34..!! i think being only 34 and now having become an MD for MENA Equities for the biggest bank in the world is a big thing.. but whatever happened to being humble bout your acheivements??? being nice to your subordinates?? being considerate and human for a change!?!?!? i mean.. in all my previous jobs, my bosses were amazing il7amdila.. my first full time job was also with a bank, in a team of 4, with a very reputed and ‘mehyoob’ 32 y.o. man as a boss, but he was the sweetest thing when it came to the team! he was supportive, funny as hell, and a great listener.. and when it came to work, he was strict yet not suffocating. as long as we did our job well, delivered everything on time, he was the happiest, and so were we.. i guess they dont make em this way anymore.. or maybe its the inferiority complex of the nationality i am dealing with right now!

i cant picture myself being the super-micro-managing boss one day, one who doesnt laugh or joke around with her colleagues, one who cant care for anything but numbers and figures.. i am a leader by nature, and i do want to be in upper management someday.. but if tension and pressure from the bosses senior to me will make me an inconsiderate ass, i seriously could do without..

  1. tell me about it Dima!!
my boss (the GM) is only 2 years older than me…the CEO is around 34..and i swear dealing with them is way much harder than dealing with my 50+ years old ex-boss!!

i though the opposite…but what did i know!! lol…jad i feel enu 3a2loun battal yestaw3eb what they achieved at such a young age..and we have to deal with the consequences!! :p

  2. lool il feyouzat darabet! 3anjad makes sense.. i think they lose their minds when they reach such a stage and start taking it out on the universe..

    big sigh mayouseh…

  3. Perhaps you will have to play the part of Smithers to survive at your current place. Or perhaps you could draw straws with your team to see who will run your boss over in the parking lot. Ooops! But, ultimately, if the corporate culture allows your boss to be an ass, then perhaps that’s not where you belong. Not that any other bank would necessarily be any better – banking is one of the worst industries for worker pay and satisfaction, at least on this side of the planet.

  4. but i have always been in banks, 7 years of consumer and investment banking.. i never met ANYONE remotely close to this guy.. or maybe i was lucky this far lol i still think its the inferiority complex this nationality has… blech!

Sorry to hear that girls, i am lucky to finally find a very down to earth boss who is only 28 years old, the GM is not in Dubai so i rarely deal with him but he is also a sweet late thirties guy.

but before that i went through hell with the same age group you mentioned!

  6. wonders: smalla w mashala w ye5zi il 3ein lol (w 32balna ana w mais)

My ex-manager, el.ma2soof 3a shababo, was a very sweet, humble, supportive and cooperative guy. He even took the fights with other departments on our behalf! Consequently, he quited after six months in the position!
My current manager is Egyptian and based in Egypt, so we basically don’t deal with him, but he’s kinda careless and trying to push his own people and discredit us, Jordanians. But fortunately, we have a great team leader with whom I’ve been team-mates, and work partners for 2 years, so when he was promoted to team leader actually nothing changed..

  8. Adoosh: check my reply to wonders lol

my direct boss was an amazing guy, technically he still is lol but he quit a couple of months ago, and now i am left with this guy 😦

i usually had good manager…even the young one was great…my last manager was only 5yrs older than me and u will never know that he is my boss..he was very sweet and very humble…but i found that women managers are the worst…o how i hated one of them…she was a complete bitch to us girls…but was all nice and sweet to the guys…..ugggh..i only lasted at that job for less than 3mo..i could not take her…and in my other job i had a woman manager and i was there for only 3mo…hmmmmmmmmmmmm…

  10. sam: i have to admit that most women managers were terrible in my previous jobs as well and thank God i wasnt directly reporting to them.. but observing them was enough! lol i donno why some women feel they need to be extra tough and extra strict to succeed as managers.. i guess its their way of proving themselves to be competent against their male counterparts.
